Cole acquires and analyzes in vivo and ex vivo brain MRI data, both structural and diffusion, at various resolutions (80um-1mm) and field strengths (9.4T, 7T, 3T, 1.5T), and also serves as project manager for the Fischl, Wang, and Hof U01 Connects grant. This project is demonstrating whole brain mapping capabilities using the human ex vivo brainstem as a development platform. Cole is involved with preparing brainstem samples and acquiring MRI at 80um resolution in the 9.4T small bore system, as well as processing diffusion data. Downstream, brainstems undergo PS-OCT and LSFM to image neuronal nuclei and axonal fibers, with manual tracing for ground-truth estimates of fiber orientation. Cole is also involved in training high school interns in vessel segmentation.
